Alia Bhatt urged support for Assam flood victims in a post shared on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday.

“It happens every year and it still catches us off guard,” the actress wrote, reflecting on the recurring nature of the state’s monsoon floods.

She added, “Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery,” flagging both the emergency response and the rebuilding effort still to come.

More than 60 people have died in the floods, a figure the Assam State Disaster Management Authority has since revised upward to 75.

The floods have hit an estimated 4.45 lakh people across 631 villages, with many losing their homes, land and livestock.

Bhatt said she would spend the next few days sharing information about relief organisations on the ground, using the hashtag #CircleOfHope.

Her appeal follows those of other Bollywood figures, including Salman Khan, whose Being Human foundation has launched a multi-phase relief effort distributing food and essentials.

Bhumi Pednekar has also supported the cause, while Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap have contributed to the Assam Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

Rescue and relief operations continue across the flood-hit districts of the state.

Districts including Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat and Nagaon have been hit hardest, with the Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above danger levels following heavy rain, and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed ministers to coordinate relief and rehabilitation efforts across the region.

Bollywood celebrities have a long history of using their social media platforms to draw national attention to disaster relief efforts, often crediting on-ground organisations directly to help channel donations more effectively.

The Assam floods have become an annual monsoon crisis in the state, with rivers including the Brahmaputra regularly breaching embankments and displacing large numbers of families across low-lying districts.
