Chumbak, a new family comedy series starring Neena Gupta, Sumeet Vyas and Deven Bhojani from the creators of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, premieres on Netflix on September 10.

Chumbak drops on Netflix today, September 10, reuniting the creative team behind Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.

Created by Aatish Kapadia and JD Majethia, the series stars Neena Gupta, Sumeet Vyas, Deven Bhojani and Arjun Bijlani.

Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani play Rajni and Kuku Merchant, a bickering but devoted couple, while Sumeet Vyas plays Aditya Khanna.

The multi-generational family comedy is set in an Indian neighbourhood, following the chaos and warmth of its residents.

Chumbak arrives during a crowded week for Indian streaming releases, alongside The Revolutionaries and Ghamasaan on other platforms.

Chumbak’s trailer has drawn attention for its ensemble comic chemistry, positioning the show as a spiritual successor to its creators’ earlier sitcom hits.

Netflix has increasingly invested in India-originated family comedy series as part of its regional content strategy, alongside dramas and crime thrillers.

The series joins a crowded September slate of Indian OTT releases, with period drama The Revolutionaries and dacoit thriller Ghamasaan also premiering on rival platforms this week.

Neena Gupta has had a prolific run across film and streaming in recent years, appearing in a wide range of comedic and dramatic roles.

Chumbak comes from the creators of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi, two of Indian television’s best-known sitcom franchises, known for their ensemble comic timing.

Sumeet Vyas plays Aditya Khanna in the series, while Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani play Rajni and Kuku Merchant, a couple whose constant bickering masks a deep bond.

The show is set in an Indian neighbourhood and follows the everyday chaos, quirks and warmth of its residents across multiple generations.

Arjun Bijlani also features in a lead role in the series, rounding out an ensemble cast built around family and neighbourhood comedy.

The show’s creators, Aatish Kapadia and JD Majethia, have a long history of producing multi-generational family sitcoms for Indian television and streaming audiences.
