IGI Airport says flights are on schedule despite an IMD red alert for heavy rain in Delhi, with Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo also issuing advisories.
IGI Airport in Delhi said flights were on schedule on Tuesday despite an India Meteorological Department red alert for heavy rain across the NCR.
The airport’s advisory, issued by operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), noted that while adverse weather was expected through the day, flight operations were continuing as planned.
Passengers were urged to check their flight status directly with their airlines before setting out for the airport, given the changeable conditions.
Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo also issued their own advisories, asking travellers to stay updated on flight timings during the red alert.
The IMD forecast cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds for Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, with another spell of rain expected in the evening or at night.
The region has additionally been placed under an orange alert for the following 48 hours, suggesting the wet weather will persist beyond Tuesday’s red alert.
The warning follows a similar red alert a day earlier for eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra, where the IMD flagged extremely heavy rainfall and flash flood risk as part of a broader active monsoon spell across the north and west.
Red alerts had also been in force over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the week as the same weather system tracked across the country.
Officials separately warned that the heavy rain could cause traffic congestion and waterlogging in several low-lying parts of the city.
Commuters were advised to check road conditions before travelling and avoid flooded routes, even as the airport confirmed flight schedules remained unaffected, with passengers asked to factor in extra time given the unsettled outlook for the rest of the week.
The airport has said live flight information continues to be available on its official website and social media channels for passengers tracking the latest updates.
