The Odyssey beats Oppenheimer to become Nolan’s top India grosser

The Odyssey has beaten Oppenheimer’s record to become Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing film in India, crossing Rs 138 crore net at the box office in 15 days.

Trade tracker Sacnilk reported the film added roughly Rs 3 crore on Day 15, Friday, July 31, 2026, taking its cumulative India net collection to about Rs 138.40 crore since its July 17 release.

Oppenheimer’s complete theatrical run in India had brought in Rs 129 crore net, making it the 13th Hollywood release to cross the Rs 100 crore net mark domestically.

The record came close to Nolan’s birthday on July 30, an added detail that trade watchers have highlighted while tracking his standing at the Indian box office.

The Odyssey’s ensemble cast features Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.

Trade reports note that while The Odyssey has out-earned Oppenheimer in India, the earlier film drew higher overall footfalls, a difference tied to ticket pricing and premium-format demand.

Shot largely on IMAX cameras, the film continues Nolan’s long association with the large-format technology, a factor trade analysts say has historically boosted his films’ premium-format revenue share in India.

Oppenheimer had become just the 13th Hollywood film to cross Rs 100 crore net in India during its theatrical run, with IMAX screens contributing close to 40% of its business in its second week.

Despite The Odyssey’s higher total revenue, trade reports note that Oppenheimer recorded higher overall footfalls during its run, reflecting differences in average ticket pricing and premium-format viewership between the two films.

The milestone arrived close to Christopher Nolan’s birthday on July 30, adding a symbolic dimension to the record for trade watchers tracking the director’s India box office history.
