The Sensex jumped 776 points on Monday as a five-day market slump came to an end.
The index closed at 76,835.78, up 776.29 points or 1.02 per cent, while the Nifty gained 229.40 points, or 0.96 per cent, to close at 23,995.95.
The turnaround was driven by a sharp fall in crude oil prices after the United States and Iran paused military strikes, easing worries over a longer conflict.
IT and bank stocks led the rally, with Eternal and IndiGo among the top gainers.
The session’s gains extended a positive opening earlier in the day.
The rebound follows five consecutive sessions of losses caused by an earlier spike in crude oil prices.
