BESCOM announces 6-hour Bengaluru power cut today
BESCOM has announced a 6-hour power cut in parts of Bengaluru today for maintenance under the Kattigenahalli substation.
BESCOM has announced a six-hour power cut in parts of Bengaluru on Wednesday, between 11 am and 5 pm, for maintenance under the Kattigenahalli substation.
The affected areas include Uttar Gate 1, 2 and 3, the Embassy Office and Philips Company premises, Dwaraka Nagar, Baba Nagar, Kattigenahalli, Bagalur Cross, Bagalur Main Road, Manipal College and Vinayaka Nagar and their surroundings.
The power utility said the outage is required for urgent infrastructure maintenance and substation repairs, including replacing old wires and clearing branches near power lines.
BESCOM said the shutdown would also enable transformer inspections aimed at cutting the risk of outages once monsoon rains pick up.
Residents have been urged to fully charge laptops, phones and power banks before 11 am and to arrange emergency lighting in advance.
The utility also asked residents to avoid using lifts or heavy motors during the outage, adding that power would return through staggered switching after 5 pm to prevent surges.
The maintenance is coordinated with the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, which often plans joint outage windows with BESCOM.
Residents can track restoration progress through the BESCOM Mithra app or the utility’s 1912 helpline.
BESCOM distributes electricity across eight districts of Karnataka, including Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural, spanning more than 41,000 square kilometres and serving over 2 crore people.
BESCOM is organised into nine circles, 32 divisions and 147 sub-divisions across four operating zones, the structure that oversees maintenance scheduling such as today’s Kattigenahalli shutdown.
Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited is coordinating the maintenance work alongside BESCOM, reflecting how transmission and distribution utilities in the state often plan joint outage windows to minimise repeat disruptions.
BESCOM has said such scheduled shutdowns, though inconvenient in the short term, are aimed at reducing the risk of unplanned outages once the monsoon season brings heavier rain and wind to the city.
