CBSE Class 12 compartment exam underway today for 1.89 lakh students

CBSE’s Class 12 compartment exam was held today, July 28, in a single shift for students nationwide.

The exam covered 1.89 lakh students placed in the compartment category this year.

Major academic subjects were held from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Skill and elective subjects, such as Painting, Yoga, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Hindustani Music, ran from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Students were allowed to appear in only one compartment subject this year.

The exam followed CBSE’s earlier release of admit cards, which had to be carried to exam centres along with valid photo identification.

Results are expected after the board’s broader supplementary exam window, running from July 29 to August 4 for other categories, is complete.

CBSE has typically declared compartment exam results within a few weeks of the exam being held, giving affected students clarity on their academic status well before most undergraduate admission cycles conclude for the year.

Candidates were advised to reach their exam centres well ahead of the reporting time specified on their admit cards, in keeping with CBSE’s standard exam-day guidelines followed for both main and compartment examinations.

The compartment exam gives students who fell short in one subject during the main Class 12 board exams a chance to clear that paper without having to repeat the entire academic year, a system CBSE has followed for decades.

CBSE had earlier released the compartment admit card for candidates, which was mandatory to carry to the exam centre today along with a valid photo identity document, in line with the board’s standard exam-day requirements.

Exam centres were instructed to follow standard CBSE protocols for the compartment exam, including frisking and identity verification, similar to procedures followed during the main board examinations held earlier in the year.

Students who clear their compartment paper will have their results reflected as a pass for the academic year, allowing them to proceed with admissions to undergraduate courses or other next steps without further delay.
