Sensex, Nifty fall for fifth straight session as oil prices climb
India’s Sensex and Nifty 50 fell for a fifth consecutive session on Friday, closing at 76,059.77 and 23,767.45 respectively, as crude oil prices rose amid US-Iran tensions.
India’s benchmark stock indices fell for a fifth consecutive session on Friday, pressured by a fresh rise in crude oil prices linked to the standoff between the United States and Iran.
The Sensex closed at 76,059.77, down 331.62 points or 0.43 per cent, while the Nifty 50 ended at 23,767.45, down 102.15 points, also 0.43 per cent, below the 23,800 mark.
Losses were concentrated in auto, metal and energy stocks, sectors that are typically the most sensitive to swings in crude oil prices.
IT and media stocks were the exceptions on the day, closing higher and softening the overall decline in the indices.
The fifth straight day of losses reflects the pressure global oil markets and the US-Iran situation have placed on Indian equities this week.
