Six Odisha districts under IMD red alert for heavy rainfall
The IMD has put six Odisha districts under a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, landslides and flash floods.
Six districts in Odisha have been placed under a red alert by the India Meteorological Department, which is forecasting extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. The affected districts are Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul.
The IMD has warned of thunderstorms and lightning in these areas, along with the risk of landslides in hilly regions and flash floods in low-lying areas.
The alert follows the intensification of a Low Pressure Area over the West Bengal coast into a Well-marked Pressure Area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts, recorded at 5:30 am IST on Sunday.
Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the deep sea and nearby coastal waters for the next four days due to rough sea conditions.
A red alert has also been issued for Central Maharashtra this week amid widespread monsoon activity across the country.
